Victor Cha
School of Foreign Service
Victor Cha is the Distinguished University Professor, D.S. Song-KF Chair, and professor of government in the School of Foreign Service and the Department of Government in the College of Arts & Sciences. A member of the faculty committee for the Initiative for U.S.-China Dialogue on Global Issues, he joined the Georgetown faculty in 1995.
Major international activities include:
- Served as director for Asian Affairs at the National Security Council from 2004-07, led the U.S. Delegation for the United States at the Six Party Talks, and received two Outstanding Service Awards during his tenure at the White House
- Launched the Master of Arts in Asian Studies (MASIA) degree in 2011 and the Georgetown Journal of Asian Affairs in 2014 as the Director of Asian Studies at Georgetown University
- Senior adviser and the inaugural Korea Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) since 2009
- John M. Olin National Security Fellow at Harvard University, two-time Fulbright Scholar, and Hoover National Fellow and Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) Fellow at Stanford University
- Author of five books and guest analyst for various media including CNN, ABC Nightline, NBC Today Show, CBS Morning Show, Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, BBC, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and National Public Radio
- The Impossible State: North Korea, Past and Future was selected by Foreign Affairs as a "Best Book on the Asia-Pacific" in 2012
