Marc Howard

Prisons and Justice Initiative
Marc Morjé Howard is a professor in the Department of Government in the College, a professor of law (by courtesy) at Georgetown Law, and the founding director of the Prisons and Justice Initiative. He joined the Georgetown faculty in 2003.
International activities include:
- Author of three books, including most recently Unusually Cruel: Prisons, Punishment, and the Real American Exceptionalism (2017), and numerous academic articles on democracy, citizenship, and criminal justice, as well as op-eds in the New York Times, Washington Post, Buzzfeed, and other outlets
- Has received grants from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Minority Business Development Agency, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, the Social Science Research Council, and the National Science Foundation
- Directs the Prisons and Justice Initiative at Georgetown, which includes the Prison Scholars Program at the D.C. Jail, the Pivot Program, and other programs to support incarcerated and formerly incarcerated citizens
