Gérald Cyprien Cardinal Lacroix

Archbishop of Quebec, Member of the Pontifical Council for Culture, Vatican Primate of Canada

Cardinal Gérald Cyprien Lacroix is archbishop of Quebec and primate of Canada. Born in Quebec, Canada, he immigrated with his family to New Hampshire when he was eight years old. At the age of 18, he returned to Quebec where he worked as a graphic designer before becoming a priest in 1988.

He served as a missionary in Colombia, South America, for nine years. As archbishop of Quebec since 2011, he serves on the Executive Council of the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Quebec and the Permanent Council of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.

Pope Francis has appointed him as a member of the Pontifical Council for Culture, the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of Sacraments and the Congregation for Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life. He is a member of the Ordinary Council for the Synod of Bishops.
